Manuscript compiled by George Washington Gill Averett containing a detailed prose account of his family's genealogy, as well as memoirs of his life history. He writes of his birth in Tennessee and the family's move to Illinois in 1830, of their travels with the Mormons to Missouri and back to Illinois throughout the 1830s, thier overland journey to Utah in the 1840s, and their experiences gold mining in California from 1849. The manuscript appears to be incomplete.

Gold prospector and Mormon pioneer. George Washington Gill Averett was born Jan. 20, 1824 in Tennessee, and grew up in Missouri and Illinois. He and his family converted to Mormonism when he was a child. In April 1849 he set out to California to prospect for gold. Averett became ill and returned to Illinois on a ship by way of Nicaragua and New Orleans. He married Nancy Turnbeaugh in Illinois and learned the trade of wheelwright. He and his wife traveled to Utah in 1858. Averett accompanied his brother to Utah's Dixie, then moved with his family to Arizona about 1884. He died Jan 14, 1902 in Washington County, Utah.
