Biographical notes:
"Klondike" Kate was born Kathleen Eloisa Rockwell on October 4, 1876 in Junction City, Kansas. Her early years were spent in Kansas and Spokane, Washington. Living with her mother in New York City in the 1890s, Kate began working as a dance hall girl and singer. She eventually made her way to the Yukon and was celebrated as "Queen of the Yukon" during the gold rush. She formed a partnership with Alexander Pantages while in Dawson, which ended in 1905 with his incipient theater chain and her poverty. In 1910 she moved to Bend, Oregon. This remained her home for the rest of her life, during which she married three times. She died in Sweet Home, Oregon on February 21, 1957.
