Biographical notes:

The Patriotic Order of Americans was the ladies' auxiliary to Patriotic Order Sons of America. The Patriotic Order Sons of America is a patriotic fraternal organization founded "to preserve the Public School System, The Constitution of the United Sates and our American way of life." It was organized by Dr. Reynell Coates (1802-1886) in Philadelphia in 1847.
