Warren Roderic Cothran (1938-1980) received a B.A. in Biological Sciences and a teaching credential from San Jose State College in 1962 and a Ph.D in Entomology from Cornell University in 1967. He joined the Department of Entomology at the University of California, Davis in 1968 as an Assistant Professor of Entomology and Assistant Entomologist in the Experiment Station. Cothran's research focused on the control of the insect pests of alfalfa, especially the alfalfa weevil.
