Gurdon Saltonstall (1666-1724), governor of Connecticut, was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on March 27, 1666. He received an AB from Harvard in 1684 and an AM in 1687. He was appointed governor of the Colony of Connecticut in 1707, and served until his death on September 20, 1724.

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Harvard College undergraduates often copied academic texts and lecture notes into personal notebooks in place of printed textbooks.

Jonathan Mitchel (1624-1668), a minister in Cambridge, Mass., was born in England in 1624. He received an AB from Harvard in 1647 and an AM in 1651. He was ordained as a minister of Cambridge, Mass. on August 21, 1650 and served as a member of the Harvard Corporation. Mitchel died on July 9, 1668.
