Biographical notes:

Lee (b.1932) was born in Chungju (South Korea) and grew up in Seoul (South Korea) during the Japanese occupation.

After the Korean War started, he served as a translator in the 55th Military Police in Taegu (South Korea) and the Technical Liaison Office, 8240th Army Unit in Seoul. Lee married a native of Wonju (South Korea) and moved to the United States in 1970 to attend graduate school at the University of Oklahoma. He eventually settled in Madison (Wisconsin).
