Biographical notes:
James Wood (1771-1851) was an important early 19th century iron manufacturer. He established a partnership with his younger sons under the style of James Wood & Sons in 1841 for the purpose of operating an iron works and shovel factory at Conshohocken, Pa. The firm was succeeded by J.(ohn) Wood & Brothers in 1848, when James Wood retired. The plant became part of the Alan Wood Iron & Steel Company in 1917.
