Boston Corbett was born as Thomas H. Corbett at London, United Kingdom, in 1832. He came to America with his parents in 1839 and settled in Troy, New York. Boston was apprenticed as a hatter in Connecticut. His wife died during childbirth in 1855. Boston changed his name after attending a Methodist revival in Boston.
