Biographical notes:
Charleston and St. John's Parish, Berkeley County, South Carolina plantation owner, botanist, South Carolina Senator, and graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina (1828). Barker acquired South Mulberry Plantation on the Cooper River by his marriage to Christiana Constantia Broughton in 1835.
