Biographical notes:

John C. Ballintine (1842-1902), Union soldier, born in Rochester, New York and lived in Scottsville, Monroe County, New York. Served in the 13th Regiment New York Volunteers during the Civil War, captured and later paroled at Annapolis, Maryland. After the war (ca. 1877-1902) lived in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. Elliot C. Ballintine, probably John's son, served as a sergeant in Company B, 3rd Regiment of the U.S. Volunteer Engineers during the Spanish-American War.
