Bob Gammage, Democrat, won his election against Ron Paul. He had served in the Texas Legislature both as a State Representative (1971-1973) and as a State Senator (1973-1976), and was a member of the “Dirty Thirty.” He has held several other political offices since his one term as U.S. Congressman, and ran for the Governor of Texas in 2006.
Ron Paul has been a United States Congressman (Republican) for Texas from 1976-1977, 1979-1985, and 1997 to the present. He has run for President twice, in both the Libertarian and Republican parties. In 2008, he was serving his eleventh year as Representative for Texas’s 14th Congressional District.
Nick Gearhart, Republican, ran against Eckhart both in 1976 and in 1978. He was News Director (anchor and reporter) for KHOU-TV for much of the 1960s.
Bob Eckhardt, Democrat, won his election against Nick Gearhart. He served as United States Representative for Texas’s 8th district from 1967 to 1981.
