Biographical notes:

Regiment organized between November 1776 and early 1777; disbanded January 1, 1781, and its remaining enlisted men incorporated into other New York regiments. During the period covered by these orderly books it was under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Weisenfels. It took part in Sullivan's Expedition in 1779.

The 4th Regiment of New York was organized between November, 1776 and early 1777 and was disbanded by General Orders effective January 1, 1781. Colonel Henry Beekman Livingston commanded the regiment from November 21, 1776 to January 13, 1779. Nathan Strong commanded a company until he was dismissed in 1779.
