Waite, John, 1732-1820
Biographical notes:
Sea captain and merchant; b. in Newbury, Mass., he commanded one of the transports in Gen. James Wolfe's expedition against Québec in 1759. He was later a member of the Provincial Congress in Massachusetts (1776), and in the same year was appointed Sheriff of Cumberland County, Me., a position he held until 1809. He was a colonel of the First Regiment.

Waite, born in Newbury, Mass., commanded one of the transports in General James Wolfe's expedition against Quebec in 1759. He was later a member of the Provincial Congress, 1776, and in the same year was appointed Sheriff of Cumberland County, Maine, which office he held until 1809.
