Biographical notes:
Rose MacAuley, born in Rugby, England, was a novelist, essayist, and poet. She attended Oxford, where she wrote her first book. She wrote satirical novels such as Dangerous Ages (1921) and her best-known work is The Towers of Trebizond (1956). Two postumous volumes, Letters to a Friend (1961-62), relate her rediscovery of religion.
