Biographical notes:

Crittendon was born 1787 Sep.10, near Versailles, Woodford Co., Ky. He graduated from William and Mary College in 1806, studied law, then was admitted to the bar, and commenced practice in Woodford Co. in 1807. He held numerous local and state offices in Ky. and Ill. from 1809-1832, was appointed U.S. Attorney General by Pres. Harrison, and served from 1841 Mar.-Sept. He was then appointed and subsequently elected to the U.S. Senate, and served from 1842-1848, when he resigned, again to serve as U.S. Attorney General from 1850 July-1853 Mar. Elected again to the U.S. Senate, he served from 1855 Mar.-1861 Mar. He died 1863 July 26.
