Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Thomas F. Leaming (1786-1839) married Susan Murgatroyde, with whom he had one son. A relative of Moses and Stephen F. Austin, Leaming worked as a merchant in Philadelphia while also serving as a business associate with power of attorney for the Austin family.
