Lang, Andrew, 1888-1924.
Biographical notes:
Aviator, test pilot, motor car driver and mechanic. Born Corowa, NSW in 1888. Lang worked in a variety of jobs in the motor industry including mechanic, car salesman, chauffeur and touring car driver. In 1915 Lang trained as an aircraft pilot in England, later working as an instructor and serving on the western front. After the war, Lang worked as a test pilot in England and Australia; broke altitude records in the "Napier Lion" aircraft in 1919; wrote a motoring column for the "Sydney Mail"; and in 1922 was involved in Frank Hurley's second expedition to Papua. Lang was killed in 1924 attempting to break the world 24 hour car touring record.
