James Ferguson, Mormon soldier, orator, editor, and lawyer, who served in the Mexican War as part of the Mormon Battalion, served as Sheriff of Great Salt Lake County, Attorney General of the Territory, Adjutant General, and member of the Legislative Council. In 1854-56 he performed a mission to Ireland, and upon his return took up the practice of law, and established "The Mountaineer" (a journal) with Seth M. Blair and Hosea Stout in 1859.
Lucy Nutting Ferguson was one of James Ferguson's four wives.
