Biographical notes:

Robert Ward was a weaver in Massachusetts, probably in the vicinity of Dedham.

Robert David Ward was born in Montevallo, Alabama, in 1929, son of a professor at Alabama College for Women (now the University of Montevallo). Memories of his upbringing figure in his later books, Lamar and Me, and Time Has Made a Change in Me. He received his M.S. in History at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Tulane University) in 1951and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1957. He taught at Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University) from 1955-1986. He wrote books and articles on different aspects of Alabama history, usually with his college friend William Warren Rogers, culminating in an overall history of the state in 1994, written with Rogers, Leah Rawls Atkins, and Wayne Flint. He died in 2006.
