Loren R. Mosher, clinician specializing in the treatment of schizophrenia without drugs, earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Stanford University in 1956. His professional posts have included first chief of the National Institute of Mental Health's Center for the Studies of Schizophrenia (1968 to 1980); chief medical director of mental health service in Montgomery County, Md., (1988 to 1996); and clinical director of mental health services for San Diego County (1996 to 1998). He also served as clinical professor of psychiatry at UC-San Diego School of Medicine. He died in 2004.
