Cathcart, Professor Edward Provan (1877-1954: Emeritus Professor of Physiology, Glasgow University)

Biographical notes:

Professor Edward Provan Cathcart received his MB and BSc from the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 1900, and from the same university, his MD in 1904 and his DSc in 1906. Between 1902 and 1904, he was a research scholar at the Lister Institute, London, England. He studied abroad at the University of Munich, Germany, and the University of Berlin, Germany, and at the University of Leningrad, St. Petersburg, Russia. He was appointed as the Grieve Lecturer in Chemical Physiology at the University of Glasgow in 1905 . In 1911, he was awarded the honorary Research Associateship of the Carneggie Institute of Washington, USA. In 1915 he took up the position of Professor of Physiology at the London Hospital Medical School, London, England. He was appointed the Gardiner Professor of Chemical Physiology at the University of Glasgow from 1919 until 1928. He received his Hon LLD from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, in 1928 and LLD from University of Glasgow in 1948 . He was appointed Regius Professor of Physiology at the University of Glasgow in 1928 . In 1948, he was appointed as Emeritus Professor of Physiology at the University of Glasgow. He died in 1954 .
