Biographical notes:
Courses in agriculture have been taught at Auburn since the school became a land-grant institution in 1872; agricultural research at Auburn started with the creation of the Agricultural Experiment Station in 1883, subsequently reorganized under the Hatch Act of 1887. Teaching functions of the College and research functions of the Experiment Station have been administered jointly throughout most of the 20th century. The College of Agriculture was established in 1985; it was previously know as the Department of Agriculture (1883-1909), the College of Agricultural Sciences (1909-1929), the School of Agriculture (1929-1980), and the School of Agriculture, Forestry, and Biological Sciences (1980-1985).
