Spector, Norma.
Biographical notes:
Norma Hanan Spector in the late 1940s and early 1950s worked with and for the New York local of the Federation of Greek Maritime Unions (FGMU). She was a kind of Public Relations liaison for the head of the New York FGMU, to seek support of American trade unions and people for the cause of the Greek seamen, which was closely linked with the struggles against the fascist government of Greece. While she was in the FGMU office, a Greek ship put in to the NY port and the ship's crew brought to the union office a cardboard box of papers wrapped in cloth. The seamen said it was from Makronēsos, one of the detention camps in Greece.
