Fine, Holly, 1910-1998.
Biographical notes:
Holly Fine was a burlesque dancer with A.B. (Abe) Marcus's traveling vaudeville production, the Marcus Show (at that time called La Vie Paree) from 1933-1939. The Marcus Show was a company of 75 performers, touring extensively in China, Japan, India, South Africa, Mexico, Australia and other countries. Fine met and developed a romance with Danny Kaye during her time on the Marcus Show. In 1939, Kaye returned to her Florida home, eventually marrying neighbor Al Hitzing and settling in North Ft. Myers.
Danny Kaye, born David Daniel Kaminski, was a popular American entertainer. Beginning as a performer in a resort in the Catskills, in 1933 Kaye joined dancers Dave Harvey and Kathleen Young to form a trio called the Three Terpsichoreans. Later that year the group was approached by A.B. Marcus, who invited Harvey and Young (but not Kaye) to join the Marcus Show. When Harvey and Young offered to divide their salary three ways, Marcus relented, although he initially still refused to let Kaye on stage.
Kaye performed with the Marcus Show during their international tour in 1933-1934, but Marcus did not renew Kaye's contract after the tour ended. After struggling initially, Kaye began to have success in the late 1930s as a nightclub performer in New York. His Hollywood career began in 1944 and spanned 17 feature films; he also starred in his own radio program and hosted a weekly television variety show.
