A native of Wisconsin, T. Harry Williams began his teaching career at the University of Wisconsin in 1936, and continued at the University of Omaha until 1941, when he accepted a position on the faculty of Louisiana State University. A distinguished historian, prolific writer, and dynamic lecturer, T. Harry Williams taught American history at LSU from 1941 until his retirement in 1979. He was active in several historical associations and the recipient of many professional honors and awards.
He was appointed a Boyd Professor of History in 1953, and authored more than fifteen books before his death. He developed the new research technique of oral history for his book HUEY LONG, a publication which won him much acclaim and for which he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award.
He married Estelle Skolfield in 1952, who later assisted him in his research and after his death in July 6, 1979, supervised the publications of his last two books.
