Biographical notes:

Resident of Columbia, South Carolina; attorney and real estate investor; graduate of University of South Carolina (1910), Yale (1911), and Oxford (1914 and 1919) where he was a Rhodes Scholar; native of Summerton, S.C.; admitted to the S.C. bar in 1915 and practiced law in Columbia until his retirement in 1967; U.S.C. law professor (1919-1920 and 1930-1932); veteran of World Wars I and II, attaining rank of colonel; member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
