Biographical notes:

Dr. Dorothy L. Hoffman, Professor of Modern Languages, joined the faculty of Florida State College for Women in 1927 as an Instructor. In 1934, she was promoted to Assistant Professor of Spanish and French; in 1936 she was promoted to Associate Professor, and in 1946 to Professor. In 1963-1964, she became a Distinguished Professor. Born in Liston, Indiana, on November 18, 1903, she earned her A.B., M.A., and Ph. D. from the University of Illinois in 1926, 1927, and 1936, respectively.

She served as acting head of the Modern Languages Department in 1952-1953, Chairman of the Faculty Professional Relations Committee, Secretary of the F.S.U. Credi Union, Faculty Senate, Graduate Council, President of the F.S.U. Religious Council, and almost all of the University Standing Committees. Dr. Hoffman retired in 1974, and died in 1985.
