Biographical notes:

Shopkeeper, livery and hotel operator, plantation owner, military officer.

James Mason was probably a native of Rhode Island. He was a businessman in Jacksonville and a plantation owner. Mason was also an officer in the militia during the Second Seminole War. He served in the territorial legislature in 1840, and was killed in combat in June of 1840.
