U.S. naval officer, businessman, and civic leader, of Fremont and Toledo, Ohio; director of Pemiscot Land and Cooperage Company (Caruthersville, Mo., 1930-1951) and Baker Brothers Machine Tool Company (Toledo, Ohio, 1933-1952); third son of Birchard Austin and Mary Sherman Hayes; grandson of Rutherford B. Hayes; married Martha Beatrice Baker; d. 1957.
