Dates:
Active 1920
Active 1985

Biographical notes:

Red Bird Mission has its origins in efforts began at Beverly in Bell County, Kentucky in 1921 by the mid-western based Evangelical Church. Church and school programs rapidly developed, followed by a hospital in 1928. Denominational mergers in 1946 and 1968 resulted in the Mission becoming a project of the United Methodist Church. The Mission, which continues in operation as of 2003, conducts extensive religious, educational, and health programming in Kentucky's Clay, Leslie, Harlan, and Bell Counties.
