Biographical notes:

Edward M. Pike was born in Maine in 1838, moving west to Illinois with his parents. He enlisted in the Illinois 33rd Infantry Regiment and served throughout the Civil War. He was recognized with the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Cache River, Ark. Upon returning to Illinois after the war, he served successively as sheriff of McLean Co., mayor of Bloomington, Ill., and deputy collector of internal revenue. He moved to Chenoa, Ill., in 1869 where he opened a lumber business and owned the New Discovery Kiln Brick and Tile Co. He was a Freemason and active in the Grand Army of the Republic. He married Eunice Fugate.
