Republican governor of New Hampshire from 1941-1945; born in Enfield, New Hampshire; received Bachelors and medical degrees from Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School respectively; served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, 1935-1936; served in the New Hampshire Senate, 1937-1940; delegate to Republican National Convention from New Hampshire, 1944-1960.
