Farr Literary Society (University of Florida)
Biographical notes:
The Farr Literary Society was named for the founder Dr. James Marion Farr. Established around 1919 for the expressed purposes of cultivating interest in literary and cultural activities, the society was open to all students registered in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida. Topics for debate included contemporary literature, politics, and morals. The society, in conjunction with other campus organizations, often arranged for guest speakers, including such popular literary figures as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, to appear before the student body. In 1932 the society became a member of the University of Florida Debate Council.
