Biographical notes:
Tom N. Chapman was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on September 2,1908, the son of Charles and Rosa Chapman. In 1918 the family moved to a ranch near Ryegate, Montana. In April 1927, Tom married Olive Burlingame. They had a daughter also named Olive. They were divorced a few years later. Tom married Dorothy Hildreath in Butte in 1937. He worked as a miner in Butte in the early 1940s; and as a civilian employee of Fort Richardson, Alaska, about 1946. He returned to Montana in 1947, settling in Helena, where he worked initially as a fireman for the Northern Pacific Railway, and then as a refrigerator repairman. In1956 he was hired as a maintenance engineer at the State Capitol, a position he held until he retired in 1974. He died on May 11, 1990.
