Biographical notes:

Andre Girard, religious painter, was born in France and migrated to the United States after World War II. A leading figure in the French Underground in World War II, Girard initially drew caricatures of the Nazis but later turned to religious paintings, including subjects such as the life of Jesus Christ. Girard used film to animate his paintings in slow movement across the screen in an attempt to emphasize the importance of light.
