Peck, Stow & Wilcox was organized in 1870 by the merger of three companies: Peck, Smith & Company, S. Stow Manufacturing Company, and Roys & Wilcox Company. In 1879 the company purchased the business of Hart, Bliven & Mead Manufacturing Company. A centennial history of the company can be found in the library: One Hundred Years of Progress (Southington, Conn.: Peck, Stow & Wilcox Company, 1919).
