Dutch children's author/illustrator, born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1908. She moved to the United States in 1934 and became a citizen in 1936. Modeling many of her characters after her own six children she wrote/illustrated more than twenty of her own books and illustrated another dozen of other authors.
