Biographical notes:

Myles Birket Foster was a popular Victorian-era illustrator and watercolor painter, noted for his technical proficiency and rustic scenes. First apprenticed to a wood engraver, he later worked as an illustrator for books and periodicals before successfully publishing books of his own illustrations. He was perhaps best known for his watercolor paintings, employing a singular stippled technique to great effect.
