Biographical notes:
Merchant, of New Bedford, Mass; partner with his brother William C.N. Swift (1815-1892) in Swift Brothers of New Bedford, Mass., a lumber business that harvested live oak from the swamps of the southern states for the shipbuilders of New Bedford.
