Biographical notes:
The KFR was a fraternal, literary, and dramatic society organized in 1871 by teen-aged boys of eminent Washington, D.C. families. The treasurer was Jesse Root Grant (1858-1934), son of President Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885). Jesse Grant was also assistant editor of the KFR Journal, an amateur monthly that the group published in Washington, D.C., 1873-1874. It was largely a satirical journal devoted to "fact, fiction, and fun." The society also held dramatic presentations and organized soirees and other festivities. Among the original founders were Charles Morris Addison (1856-1947), Frank Bolles (1856-1894), and Albion Keith Parris (1857-1930).
