Biographical notes:

The Pleasants were a prominent Virginia Quaker family with lands on the Upper James River. Robert Pleasants (1723-1801), was Clerk of the Upper Quarterly Meeting and Virginia Yearly Meeting. He was a renowned abolitionist and philanthropist, a founder and president of Virginia Abolition Society.
