Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce
Biographical notes:
Established in 1836, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce began as the Mobile Commerce and Business League. It was the first such organization in the state of Alabama and had undergone several name changes over the years. Known variously as the Mobile Board of Trade, the Mobile Chamber of Commerce and Business League, and the Mobile Chamber of Commerce and Maritime Exchange and Shipping Association, the chamber's mission is to "serve as a progressive advocate for business needs to promote the Mobile area's economic well-being." In 1960, the chamber was reincorporated under its present name.
