The company was formed by the consolidation of Howell and Lansing Rail Road Company with Detroit and Howell Rail Road Company on April 11, 1870.
Agreed to consolidate with Ionia and Lansing Rail Road Company to form Detroit, Lansing and Lake Michigan Rail Road Company on March 30, 1871. Consolidation agreement filed in Michigan on December 11, 1872.
