Variant namesBiographical notes:
Mason, a native of Tallassee, Alabama, enlisted in Company A, 1st Battalion, Hilliard's Legion when it was formed in April, 1862. The legion was stationed in east Tennessee and Kentucky through the winter of 1864. In November, 1863 the battalion was reorganized as the 59th and 60th Alabama Infantry Regiments, with Mason in Company F of the 60th. In March, 1864, the 60th was sent to Virginia, where it participated in the defense of Petersburg until the city fell in April, 1865.
