American poet and educator Paul Ramsey wrote poems, short stories, essays, book reviews and several novels.

Born November 26, 1924, in Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Ramsey taught English at a number of universities, including the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Elmira College, University of the Pacific, Raymond College, University of the South, and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

In the late 1960s, Ramsey was a poet-in-residence at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and director of Tennessee Poetry Circuit. In addition, Paul Ramsey wrote an annual chronicle of poetry for the Sewanee Review and edited Factotum from 1948 to 1949.

His first book of poetry was In an Ordinary Place, published by the North Carolina State University Press in 1965.

Paul Ramsey died September 27, 1994, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
