Biographical notes:
Monica Clare was born in Dareel QLD in 1924. Her father was an Aboriginal shearer and her mother was English. Her autobiographical work, Karobran: the Story of an Aboriginal girl, is believed to be the first novel by an Aboriginal woman to be published.
