Biographical notes:

From 1953 to his retirement in 1985, James Crossen worked with the U.S. Geological Survey, primarily making topographic maps in the seven western states and Hawaii. In 1964 he was transferred to the Geologic Division and Astro-Geology in Flagstaff, Arizona, to work on the Apollo lunar landings project. In 1972, at the end of the Apollo project, he was reassigned to fieldwork in connection with making topographic maps.
