Biographical notes:
The diarist was an unidentified seamstress at the Hancock, Massachusetts, Shaker community, though the handwriting for entries from January-April 3, 1865 does not match that for the rest of 1865, 1866, or 1867, suggesting that at least two people were responsible for some of the entries.
