Biographical notes:

Pioneer aviatrix, founder of Australian Women Pilot's Association, war-time Commandant of Women's Air Training Corps. Among her achievements was the operation, from her own resources, of an aerial ambulance service in the far west of New South Wales and Queensland, 1936-1939. Married Charles Walton, 1939. In charge of Women's Committee of National Heart Campaign, 1961.so.

Interested in flying from her childhood she took her first lesson from Charles Kingsford Smith in 1933. After taking a commercial pilot's licence she flew an air ambulance for the Far West Children's Health Scheme. When she married she ceased flying for many years but returned to participate in the All Women's Transcontinental Air Race. She published two autobiographies, Born to fly (1961) and My God! It's a woman (2002).
