Belcher, Sarah Drowne, 1865-1930.
Biographical notes:
Born in 1864 in Providence, Rhode Island, Sarah Drowne Belcher received degrees from Boston University, New York University, and the Women's Medical College. From the latter, she received a medical degree in 1891. She served as a researcher at Johns Hopkins University and also performed research in Germany. In 1897, she was a delegate to a medical conference held in Russia. Upon returning, she took a job at the New York City Board of Health and the Rockefeller Institute. Her primary research around the turn of the century involved milk and attempts to bring a purer and healthier milk to New York City. Belcher died on December 15, 1930, in New York City.
